Sofía Gómez Alberto
Sofía Gómez Alberto is a Spanish violinist and violist currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Royal College of Music in London, where she studies with Itzhak Rashkovsky and Bryony Gibson-Cornish as a Gladys Hay Scholar. She previously completed her Master of Performance under the guidance of Rashkovsky and Nathan Braude, and holds a First Class Honours undergraduate degree from the RCM, where she studied with Lutsia Ibragimova and Yuri Zhislin.
Sofía began her formal musical training at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Anna-Liisa Bezrodny and studied privately with Valeri Gazarian. She has participated in masterclasses with renowned musicians including Maxim Vengerov, Alina Ibragimova, Nobuko Imai, Tanja Becker-Bender, and Wenting Kang. She is also a 2024 graduate of the Keshet Eilon Mastercourse.
A passionate chamber musician, Sofía has performed at venues and festivals such as the Wigmore Hall, Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall, Chipping Campden Music Festival, Lichfield Festival, Stamford International Music Festival, and with Musethica. She recently performed Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht at Wigmore Hall as part of the RCM Strings Showcase. Sofía is a member of the Isla String Quartet and a founding member of the Iridescence Ensemble, a flexible group committed to presenting 20th- and 21st-century repertoire to new audiences.
As an orchestral musician, Sofía has freelanced with the London Symphony Orchestra since January 2024 and participated in the 2023/2024 BBC Symphony Orchestra Pathway Scheme. Her previous orchestral experience includes performances with the European Union Youth Orchestra, LGT Young Soloists, Joven Orquesta Nacional de España, and the Cuban-European Academy at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. She is currently part of the 2024/2025 Orpheus Sinfonia Foundation Programme.
Sofía has received numerous accolades, including 3rd Prize at the 2023 Llanes International Viola Competition, the Viola Prize at the 2022 RCM Viola Competition, and the Lutine Prize at Junior Guildhall in 2018.
She performs on a Nicolò Gagliano violin and a Joseph Hill viola, both generously loaned by the Royal College of Music.
