Saturday Sounds Music School -
Weekly programme of lessons
Join vibrant group sessions, led by our passionate, top-level musicians and tutors who bring a wealth of real-world experience and expertise in musical education and performance.
Our carefully structured programme offers a clear sense of progression from week to week, exploring varied themes and musical topics. We have designed this to blend musical enjoyment and fun with strong educational values. Our sessions align with the ABRSM syllabus from Grades 1–5 in subjects such as music theory and aural, supporting not only instrumental exam preparation but also giving students a rich, well-rounded musical experience to help them grow as confident and capable musicians.
Music & Movement / Dance
A lively start to the day! This class is run by Claudia, our rhythmic gymnastics coach, accompanied by live classical music to suit the changing theme for each week. The sessions builds rhythm, coordination, breath control, flexibility and musical expression through movement, dance, and body percussion. It is a perfect way to warm up and energise our young musicians whilst grounding them in musical fundamentals.
Group Lessons & Keyboard skills
Hands-on, age and skill appropriate instruction in ensemble playing. The class will be split into two groups, keyboards and other instruments. Students will develop rhythm, ensemble awareness, and musical independence through structured group work learning to play together.
Performance Workshop
One or two students will have the opportunity to sign up weekly for a short and informal solo performance to the whole group. This helps build peer-to-peer support and performance confidence in a relaxed setting and is a particularly useful tool for stage experience before a concert, exam or audition.
Music theory club
This is a fun and engaging approach to improving musical understanding. The class is split into two groups, (grades 1–3 and 4–5) for standard-appropriate learning which is aligned with the ABRSM syllabus. Presentations will be given weekly on specific subjects and students will learn to read music, understand rhythm, harmony and build the theoretical skills needed for working towards the grade 5 theory examination, which is compulsory for all those that wish to continue onto higher grades in any instrument. There will be a short weekly homework set for this class.
musical games
A variety of carefully selected and fast-paced, interactive group games that sharpen pupil’s skills in listening, rhythm, pitch, memory and teamwork. These games reinforce aural and musical vocabulary whilst keeping our students having fun!
Note reading express
This is a 15-minute power session to boost music reading fluency! The aim is for students to rapidly build their recognition of notes and patterns on the stave as improving music reading literacy for instrumental learning and sightreading is essential for every young musician. Students will use a wipe clean board for this class and there will be a difference focus each week.
Aural Training
This session develops a strong musical ear which is essential for confident playing and exam success. Students are grouped by level (Grades 1–3 and 4–5) to ensure tailored activities, aligned with the ABRSM syllabus. Through singing, clapping, listening games, and analysis, they’ll explore key musical elements like dynamics, articulation, rhythm, tonality, texture, and structure. These skills support practical exam preparation and are vital ear training tools for anyone learning an instrument.
PUBLIC SPEAKING AND CHOIR
In the choir, pupils will be learning vocal techniques through ensemble music-making with piano accompaniment. Students will explore fun, themed songs and build confidence in public speaking and stage presence through introductions and announcements for end-of-year performances.
